  Division of Industrial Affairs

The mission of the Division of Industrial Affairs (DIA) is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners of the state of Delaware, to improve their working conditions, and to advance their opportunities for profitable employment by:

  • Promoting economic stability to injured workers and their families by providing partial income maintenance.
  • Protecting workers from unfair and/or unsafe working conditions through the enforcement of laws governing wage payment, minimum wage, child labor, prevailing wage, meal breaks, right to inspect personnel files, and discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, marital status, disability, and genetic testing.
  • Insuring a safe and healthful working condition by identifying workplace hazards and collecting statistical data relating to workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.

Discrimination in Employment Regulations to Take Effect January 1, 2009

In accordance with 19 Del. C. § 712(a)(2), Secretary Sharp has approved the final regulations to govern the Discrimination in Employment Administrative Process. The new regulations include requirements for filing and answering discrimination complaints; timetables and deadlines; and procedures for mediation, investigation, and conciliation.
