6TH ANNUAL EMPLOYER CONFERENCE

Wilmington, DE - The Department of Labor will be hosting the 6th Annual Employers Conference on Wednesday, October 15th at the Dover Downs Conference Center. This year's event takes into account the changing face of business and how state and private agencies can work together to build and strong and prosperous workforce.

"We are excited to have this year's conference at Dover Downs. Their facilities are exceptional and it will greatly benefit the success of the conference," said Secretary of Labor Harold E. Stafford.

Considering the changes businesses have seen over the last couple years, the conference will focus on "Connections, Challenges and Business Results." Breakout sessions will feature new seminars such as "Employee Recruitment - Who Has Soft Skills?," "Cluster Based Economic Development," "The Changing Workplace," "Labor Standards Laws," "Mediation in Discrimination Cases," "Workplace Accommodations, and Finders are Keepers." Popular seminars from previous conferences have also been revised to address the new needs of businesses. These topics include, "Economic Trends," "Workers Compensation," "Unemployment Insurance Appeals Process," "Employment Discrimination," and many more. Along with the Department of Labor, the Delaware Economic Development Office, the Division of Revenue and the Society for Human Resource Management.

Highlighting this year's conference is keynote speaker Sam Calagione, president and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. He was named Delaware Small Business Person of the Year for 2003. Sam brings a practical plan for business growth and success in an entertaining and lighthearted manner.

The conference will begin at 8:00am with registration and a continental breakfast. Speakers will begin at 9:00am and seminars beginning at 9:45am and conclude at 2:00pm, following a networking lunch. For more information contact the Department of Labor at 302-761-8003.
