Career and Technical Education

Most career and technical education programs are a combination of:
     Classroom instruction
     Laboratory work
     On-the-job cooperative work experiences
     Participation in student organizations

Students who successfully complete these programs are able to find jobs and keep them, advance in their careers, and contribute as citizens to their communities

In Delaware, career and technical education programs offer concentrated training that prepare you for such diverse careers as
     agriculture
     electronics & computers
     retailing
     finance
     insurance
     construction
     manufacturing
     small business management

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) promote occupational excellence, leadership, and citizenship.
Learn about these student organizations:
     BPA – Business Education
     DECA - Marketing Education
FCCLA - Family and Consumer Sciences
     FFA – Agriculture Education
SkillsUSA – Trade and Industrial Education
     TSA – Technology Education

And remember that career and technical education doesn’t stop once you get your high school diploma. Many students continue their education beyond high school. About 61% of career and technical graduates enroll in college or choose other post-secondary training.

All local comprehensive high schools as well as the vocational-technical centers in each county offer a wide variety of programs. For information on developing your personal career path and preparing for the future through career and technical education, contact your school counselor.
